Winter -Canterbury - Lost

Getting lost.

We get wonderfully lost on this walk. It's very muddy, it's raining, we are close to a shooting range so there is a constant sound of gun shots in the distance, and the pylons' electrical wires are buzzing loudly over our heads. The littlest member of our family says repeatedly that he wants to go home and lie in bed, and one hour into a walk we give up and turn back... Two hours later we are still wandering around in the woods, Toby proudly refusing to ask the two cyclists we meet on the way, for directions. This slow unsure wander in the woods, when we have to turn back quite a few times and retrace our steps, allows for a closer examination of the environment and a slower glance. Well, at least for me; Toby is busy trying to figure out how to get us home.
All greenery is covered in rain (it's been drizzling since early hours of the morning). The water gets caught on the branches where it preserves its rounded shape. It even reflects its surroundings in a slightly distorted way, a tiny drop reflects the big world like a magic crystal. It is being pulled by the gravity forces towards the ground but it is still hanging on to the branches. The contrast of transparent and brown-black is subtle and startling. The rain drops on perpendicular branches are like musical notation on a sheet, I wonder what music they are playing..
A frame floating in a pond. How did it get there? It is estranged from the environment because it is man-made, yet so organic as it is framing the reflections of trees in the water. Is it a magic mirror from Harry Potter, showing the slowly moving and swaying branches?
I love looking at the winter sky through the bare branches of big wide trees. It gives me a real sense of power and strength, and the background sky is always like stage lighting in theatre, either turned up to its full power, or dimmed to give the audience a signal that performance is about to start.
An abandoned spider net covered in rain. It looks like the drops weigh quite heavily. I wonder how it would move if I blew on it, I will try it next time.
Algae on a black fence. I love the intrusion of life onto the man-made things. It produces such interesting combination of colours. I save these images for my fashion for walks theme on this website.
